Cloud computing has caught everyone’s imagination with its promise of offering interconnectedness to everyone on the planet and also of giving them the ability to access data and programs pertaining to any site from anywhere. As JCR Licklider, who developed ARPANET in 1969, stated, the idea is to create an “intergalactic computer network.” The technology has gone through phases, such as grid and utility computing to SaaS (Software as a Service).

Today, cloud computing offers cutting-edge benefits like increased storage, cost reduction, flexibility, and higher performance. It also raises certain questions. As Songnian Zhou, CEO of Platform Computing, states, “many IT professionals recognize the benefits that cloud computing offers, but IT directors still have concerns about the security of their corporate data in the cloud.”
