Platform Computing Selected for Linux Magazine’s "20 Companies to Watch in 2007
TORONTO, CANADA January 18, 2007 – Linux Magazine has announced Platform Computing as one of its "20 Companies to Watch in 2007." Judges recognized those companies best positioned to enable and encourage the adoption of open source technologies over the next year, including RedHat, VMWare, IBM, Intel, and AMD. Platform’s leadership efforts to standardize and democratize Linux clusters across mixed environments helped the company stand out against other entries.
As Linux and open source adoption have accelerated, open source vendors have sought to deliver cutting edge solutions capable of going head-to-head with their proprietary competitors. The magazine examined open source pioneers, start-ups, private and public companies, and both software- and service-based businesses. From this competition, the twenty leaders were identified, based on each company’s accomplishments to date, as well as their plans for the future.
"To simplify the adoption of Linux clusters, we took the 600 pieces a business needs to build clusters and grids and fit them into one solution based on open source with product support," said Gary Tyreman, Vice-President of Platform Computing. "There is a desire by mid-sized businesses to utilize open source to deploy cluster and grid solutions, but they need the formal support traditionally provided with proprietary software. Being selected for Linux Magazine’s ‘20 Companies to Watch in 2007’ is important recognition of our work and a motivator to continue forging ahead in this space."
In its eighth year of publication, Linux Magazine has become the recognized resource for a diverse open source community of all Linux-related professionals. This year, the magazine sought to recognize the top twenty enterprises upon which vendors are relying to expand their open source adoption.
"The organizations recognized in Linux Magazine’s "20 Companies to Watch in 2007" are catalysts for important developments in open source technology and are poised to make a significant impact in the market in the coming year," said Bryan Richard, Editorial Director of Linux Magazine. "The increased awareness among vendors that open source solutions are a growing market with specialized needs has made this an exciting area to watch."
